Operato Field Service app — Privacy Policy
What the Operato Field Service Android app collects, why, and how it is handled.
Who this covers
The Operato Field Service Android app is used by technicians of businesses that subscribe to Operato. The phone is linked to one company with an activation code issued by that company. The company is the owner of the job, customer and equipment data in the app; Operatocorp processes it on their behalf.
Account and company data
Signing in records the technician's username, name, contact number, assigned location and role, so the app can show that technician their own jobs. Each activation also records the device model, operating system version and a device identifier, so a company can see and revoke the phones linked to its account.
Job data
The app shows and records service work: job details, the customer name, site address and contact for a visit, work notes, checklists, services and parts used, meter readings, the customer's signature, payments collected, and job status changes with their timestamps. This information is stored in the subscribing company's Operato account.
Photos
Photos are taken or chosen only when the technician adds one to a job — before and after shots, a part, a meter counter. They are uploaded to that job in the company's account. The app does not read the phone's photo library beyond the pictures the technician picks.
Location
Precise location is used only when the technician acts: recording where a visit started or finished, and opening directions to a site in a maps app. Location is not collected in the background and the app does not track a technician between jobs. Android asks for permission the first time and it can be refused or withdrawn in system settings; the rest of the app keeps working without it.
Working without signal
Work done with no network — a status change, a reading, a payment, a photo — is kept on the phone and sent to the company's account when the connection returns. It stays in the app's private storage until then, and is removed once it has been sent.
How the data is used
To run the service work: show a technician their day, record what was done, bill and collect for it, and keep the company's service history. The data is not sold, not used for advertising, and not shared with third parties except the infrastructure providers that host Operato (cloud hosting, storage and messaging) acting on our instructions.
Security and retention
Traffic between the app and the server uses HTTPS. Access needs a sign-in and is limited by the technician's role. Job records are retained for as long as the subscribing company keeps its account, in line with the record-keeping periods its business is subject to.
Your rights and deleting your data
Technicians should contact their own company first — it controls the account. A company administrator can revoke a device, disable a login, and request export or deletion of its data by writing to us. To ask for an account and its data to be deleted, email the address below from the registered account holder.
Children
The app is a business tool for employees and contractors. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update this page and, for material changes, tell subscribing companies through the product.
